From 6 April 2026 it applies to qualifying sole traders and landlords whose 2024–25 gross self-employment and property income was over £50,000. The thresholds extend to over £30,000 from April 2027 and over £20,000 from April 2028, subject to eligibility and exemptions.
No. Quarterly updates are summaries generated from digital records. A year-end tax return is still used to finalise the overall tax position.
Most VAT-registered businesses must already keep digital VAT records and submit returns through compatible software, unless an exemption applies.
